The Three Steps:
· Accessing and Identifying the Traumatic Memory: The process typically begins with a therapist guiding the individual into a relaxed state, often through deep breathing or visualisation exercises. The individual is then encouraged to recall the traumatic event, focusing on the sensory details (sights, sounds, smells, etc.) and associated emotions.
· Reframing and Reprocessing: The therapist guides the individual through a series of mental exercises to reframe the traumatic memory. This may involve changing the perspective on the event, altering the emotional response, or dissociating from the distressing aspects of the memory.
· Integration and Empowerment: The final step involves integrating the new, less distressing version of the memory into the individual's overall sense of self. This may involve developing coping mechanisms, building resilience, and cultivating a sense of empowerment and self-efficacy.
Applications of the 3-Step Rewind Technique:
